Will Hunt punching high for Radical SR1 Cup's return to Brands Hatch

Following a knockout performance at Snetterton, Will Hunt intends to block any counterpunches and extend his winning streak in Round 2 of the 2021 Radical SR1 Cup on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit (Saturday 8 May).

The Motorsport UK Academy driver leads the championship on 83 points after racking up a brace of wins and fastest laps, and a pole position in the opening instalment of the 2021 season in East Anglia.

However, the SR1 Cup title bout moves on to a happy hunting ground for Hunt; during his first experience of the full-length Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in 2020, he fought his way to a third-place finish before doubling his wins tally in a spectacular performance that featured countless side-by-side battles and jaw-dropping overtakes.

With experience on his side, Hunt is confident he’s capable of leading from the front this time around, and the main objective is to consolidate his points advantage at what is his local circuit.

“Last year at Brands Hatch, we dragged a result out of what seemed to be a nothing weekend,” said Hunt. “I converted a mid-pack grid position into a win and that performance gives me a lot of encouragement for the Radical SR1 Cup’s return to the circuit. Of course, we go into the weekend as the championship leader having taken a clean sweep of wins at Snetterton. A boxer friend of mine says it’s always important to land the first punch, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. It’s up to me to use that to my advantage, keeping up the momentum.

“The championship rookies will go into qualifying and the races with one hand tied behind their backs because free practice will be held on the shorter Indy circuit. Their first taste of the Grand Prix loop will be in qualifying and, as it’s a track that rewards confidence, knowledge and experience is going to be important for getting up to speed quickly.”
